In this study, we conducted surveys on students' attitudes toward physics learning and performed a lesson on waves for the 10th grade students studying Basic Physics, and then analyzed their actual attitudes and understandings. As a result, it was found that more than 90% of the students did not like physics and its primary reason was a lack of understanding of physical meanings of formulas describing physics laws and principles. In addition, the students were relatively poor at understanding the relationships between the basic physical quantities of waves such as wavelength, frequency, period, and speed. Moreover, the students were also relatively weak at understanding the wavelength of a string vibration. We confirmed that the students' understandings could be steadily improved throughout our lessons considering learning challenges among the students.
