| 内容記述 | The purpose of this study is to clarify the relationship between community school activities and students’ academic achievement in junior high schools. A questionnaire survey was conducted targeting community schools (329 schools) in junior high schools nationwide as of April 2012, with the aim of identifying “schools where community school activities have an impact on students’ academic achievement”. We selected schools A and B from responded 75 schools. These two schools had particularly high rates of assistance for attending school and high student academic ability. Principals stated that they were taking an active role in running the community school in these two schools. Visits to these two schools were conducted between May 2016 and November 2017 (6 visits to School A, 9 visits to School B). Analysis of the data obtained from these surveys revealed the following two points. 1) In junior high schools, “as a community school, students carry out activities to become participants in local traditional events and festivals” affects the academic ability of students on average at the school. 2) In a junior high school community school where students are improving their academic performance despite being from a difficult economic background, activities in the community school committees functioned as a supplementary means to achieve the school’s goal of “students learning independently.” However, the quantitative survey conducted in this study had a low response rate and a small sample size, so the data may be biased. The qualitative research only described and explained the data obtained from two schools. Therefore, the findings of this study present a set of hypotheses. Consequently, the findings from the data analyzed in this study cannot be immediately generalized. | |||||||||||
