 note = {As the Japanese government plans to increase the number of Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) in schools, it is essential that Homeroom Teachers (HRTs) and ALTs have a common understanding of the issues involved. The authors developed and administered a survey to 89 HRTs and 35 ALTs in Tokushima Prefecture. The survey found that HRTs and ALTs had similar beliefs about being prepared to teach, being prepared for team-teaching and understanding teaching responsibilities, but differed in their beliefs about national language policy, the effectiveness of pre-training and time constraints for preparation.},
