This is first time systematically introduction of earth science content in the curriculum of South Africa. Earth science content in SA curriculum consists of three categories ; astronomical content as "Our place in Space", meteorological content as "Atmosphere and Weather", geological content as "The Changing Earth". "Core knowledge and concept" is introduced in revised curriculum in 2002. The characteristics of earth science curriculum of SA are its perspective framework based on recent academic research and its relationship with human society.
