Since Meiji era, art and craft education was considered as one of the coursework such as Japanese language studies and Mathematics. School education provides different types of learnings compared to the ones in home and community in that it is systematic and structured based on certain curriculum. Such education enables children to gain the "academic skill"-ability to survive. Accordingly the topic to be studied is what type of academic skill is assumed to develop the curriculum of elementary and junior high school education.
