Japan's housing policy has shifted markedly from securing housing quantity to improving housing quality. To improve the quality of housing, residents must appropriately manage their residences to enable comfortable occupancy for long periods of time. Acquisition of knowledge about housing management is necessary to appropriately manage and maintain residences. Housing education in home economics mainly focuses on housing management in the senior high school subject Katei Sogo. Accordingly, we conducted research for the purpose of organizing what content about housing management is studied from what perspectives and obtaining basic information for lesson development concerning housing management by performing analysis of the descriptive content of textbooks. The necessity of housing management was described in textbooks from the perspective of extending the service life of housing for the purpose of living comfortably and safely.
