One of the reasons for this is the rise of “fast fashion,” a term used to refer to brands that sell new products in large quantities at low prices. At present, the large number of clothing items deemed unnecessary is exacerbating the burden on the environment. Schools are promoting education that incorporates perspectives on building a sustainable society. There is a need to design classes that will cultivate environmentally friendly clothing habits. This study reports on a survey that sought to clarify university students' awareness of fast fashion and the challenges it presents in order to obtain basic materials for curriculum development. It was determined that university students were keenly interested in clothing and fashion, but had a low level of comprehension about fast fashion. They held a favorable view of fast fashion brands, which they associated with an abundance of simple clothing items incorporating trendy designs at low prices.
