The author has participated in Mpumalanga Secondary Science Initiative (MSSI) Phase I from 1999 to 2001, and Phase II from 2003 to 2006, too. In Phase I , the main purpose is to advance the teaching ability through the making the system of on-the-job school base training system (540 schools in a state). In Phase II , we try to improve the lesson in classroom with teacher training, and aimed at the development of student understanding in mathematics and sciences in total. In this paper, we focus on the actual condition of the lesson study for the classroom improvement which has been an important subject in this project, and discuss the results and problems.
