| 内容記述 | This paper aims to analyze how Japanese−American children（Nisei）were educated in Japanese language school kindergarten in comparison with Free kindergartens in Hawaii during the early 20th century, before they entered public elementary school. Some Japanese−American children went to Japanese language school kindergartens that were built by Japanese immigrants（Issei）in order to preserve Japanese language and Japanese culture. These kindergartens’ educational contents consisted of Play（Yugi）, Singing a song （Shoka）, and so on. Other Japanese−American children went to Hawaii’s Free kindergarten. Those were influenced by American progressive education. Those educational contents consisted of mainly Play in the context of the child’s everyday life and his or her interests. Children learned many habits, behaviors and language through play at any kindergartens. And young Japanese−American children had to face to the inheritance of Japanese custom and the adaptation of American custom. | |||||||||||
