内容記述 | This study investigated Japanese language learners' recognition of speech style in Japanese as a case study. Data were collected from four Chinese advanced-level learners of Japanese, who recorded their recognition of speech style used by native speakers over the course of several months of living in Japan. The results indicated that all four learners recognized that the style they should use was uniformly determined depending on their hierarchical and close relationships with the other person, and that they wanted to use normal form more, but they were conscious of the norm. They all had a common dilemma regarding the use of polite form. Furthermore, the learners noticed that even when native speakers should have used polite form, there was a style shift to normal form, and they considered various associated reasons and effects. Since speech styles are used in a variety of ways even among native speakers, learners need to become aware of them in their daily lives and deepen their understanding accordingly. To consider classroom instruction that supports noticing and understanding of speech style, it would be effective to accumulate knowledge such as that from this study. | |||||||||||
