| 内容記述 | This work examines counterfactual conditional statements that contain compound sentences with nara-clauses in the subordinate clauses. The analysis is divided into three types of compound sentences based on whether the subordinate clause expresses something different from reality: (1) cases in which something different from reality is expressed in the subordinate and main clauses, (2) cases in which it is expressed only in the main clause, and (3) cases in which it is expressed only in the subordinate clause. As a result, there are three types of conditional sentences: (1) “typical counterfactual conditional sentences” in which things that differ from reality are expressed in the subordinate and main clauses, (2) “factual counterfactual conditional sentences” in which things that differ from reality are expressed only in the main clause, and (3) compound sentences in which things that differ from reality are expressed in the subordinate clauses and the speaker's thoughts and opinions are expressed in the main clauses. It is difficult to position the compound sentences in (3) as counterfactual conditional sentences. Furthermore, this paper shows that since (2) and (3) are conditional sentences that can only be stated in compound sentences with nara-clauses in the subordinate clauses, that these are related to the characteristics of compound sentences with nara-clauses in the subordinate clauses, it is necessary to proceed with the analysis within the characteristics of compound sentences with nara-clauses. | |||||||||||
