| 内容記述 | This study aimed to examine the awareness of parents of the effects of digital media use on their offspring through a questionnaire survey of 426 children’s guardians. The results indicated the following: (1) There was no age difference in young children using tablets and smartphones. However, there was an age difference in the usage of portable/stationary game consoles. It was revealed that 5-year-olds were more likely to use game consoles while children under the age of 3 years were less likely to use them. (2) Regarding the content of digital media, the use of game applications and viewing of live game videos were high among 5-year-olds, and the viewing of music-related videos was high among children aged 2 and younger. (3) Those parents who indicated a high percentage of usage of tablets and smartphones by their children had a high ratio of positive responses, such as “acquisition of knowledge.” In contrast, they had a low percentage of negative responses, namely “short sleep time.” However, they had a high proportion of “disturbed rhythm of life.” The text-mining analysis showed that children imitated Internet videos, sang songs, danced, and used these videos for learning. The findings suggest that no age difference in the children in the use of tablets and smartphones indicates that children of all ages use these gadgets. Parents’ awareness of the negative effects of digital media is closely related to the frequency of use of digital media by their children. The free-text responses included examples of how digital media was used as a tool for parents and their offspring to enjoy together. | |||||
